I came to the realisation yester-evening that I've played TF2 pretty much every night this week, and every night there has been at least 6 Playtopia members in the server with me. It has now just started to sink in that what we have here is a community. A real community, both online and off, where mates play games with each other and each mates other mates make other mates with mates mates, mate. (ps: lol Australian)
Throughout the long weekend gone and between my own gaming efforts (which were present yet lacking) I've been seeing a lot of people jumping in and out of the new freebie titles that were released (Synergy, Zombie Panic! Source, D.I.P.R.I.P, Insurgency and Age of Chivalry) which I think is awesome. I didn't get much time to game this weekend but I did get a chance to jump into D.I.P.R.I.P (Die in pain, rest in peace) for a short while and I've got very mixed feelings on it.
As a 3rd person racer using FPS control types it's already a little odd to play and suffers greatly from the warthog twang of getting your aim off center then trying to aim while you steer and the camera follows the crosshair. It seems to have a lot of merit though as you blow a lot of shit up (assuming you can hit anything) and the graphics are nice enough (if nice enough means everything is camoflaged and looks the fucking same) and I think once I got used to it I would probably enjoy it quite a bit. It reminds me of Destruction Derby and Carmageddon mixed with a bit of San Francisco Rush (Rushhhh!) - All great games.
I didn't get a chance to jump into and of the others but I noticed Synergy was quite popular among one of my circle of friends... maybe some bastard will post about it in the forums!
In other news, the first admin meeting took place on Sunday which went surprisingly well even thought multiple attendee's forgot about DST, effectively creating quote "a worrying template for things to come", however it wasn't a major hiccup and we all met each other, had some grub, some piss, and made sure everyone is clear on the plans ahead. You may have noticed that the Call of Duty 4 tournament server config is now posted, and the CSS config should be up this week as well. In an effort to build content on the site I (we?) would like to know what you, the community, would like. Head over to this here collaboration focal point if you've got a suggestion for the site content.
Lunch time...
