I do say, there are indeed four new updates on the front page! Due to accidentally deleting an entire weeks worth of posts and failing to save them to the online webspace, the front page sat dormant. It seems that as a newsposter my technical ability with the Silverstripe CMS can only be described as "deliciously slim".
Competitions for the Beatdown include... well, you can see that on the list for yourself, it is a list that we have one admin tasked to each for server configurations and competition rules. Prizes will be awarded for the major competitions and a fuss made over how good people from team x, y and z are at playing their respective games of choice. The Call of Duty 4 discussion is on the forums at the moment, I suggest you take a look there now if you are in the CoD4 know. However I want to talk to you about the 5th competition you will find on that page.
This is officially thrax's baby, something he brought to the table in the heady days of old when we didn't yet know about the intricacies of overloading stadium power grids. Originally I wasn't 100% sold on the idea, to me it sounded a lot like another competition that you may have heard of. Then again knowing him as I do now I can assure everybody that unlike me, his prior knowledge of Penny Arcade culture is, again, deliciously slim. It's come a long way since it's original conception and thrax has put enough thought into it for me to become excited about the whole idea, it suggests that a single winner from a cast of at least a hundred people will have proven themselves in every possible gaming trial we can throw at them; not to mention the fact that each of the 5 rounds can be played at any time, meaning that we will not be starved for time and we won't be forever waiting for 2 whole teams of people to organise themselves into a server.
I should say now that some of the games will not be the a part of the modern day selection you can currently find on your local EBGame shelf, some rounds may not even feature characters you recognise. And unfortunately I cannot tell you what each individual game will even be just yet, eventually it will all become clear why this is the case, but for the moment most of the games will remain unannounced until perhaps a week before the event - steady your readied hands, even from here I can feel them poised over the keyboard ready to Google up ROMs for the practising.
It is crafted from the ground up as a demonstration of pure gaming know-how and skill. The winner will have proven that they are the best player around at multiplayer and single player games across several random genres. I can't help but respect that kind of showing, and as such this is why we've agreed to place a hefty load of swag down upon the shoulders of whoever can best it.
