With the LAN now less than 3 short weeks away, I'm guessing at least one body on here has noticed that neither Felix nor I have had a chance to do a front page post in a number of weeks, but this doesn't mean we're not around! I've got a bit of a slow day happening at work so here's a few splurts of what's been happening of le`pate. We've been playing Left 4 Dead demo, sooo... see you all at the LAN!
Ok, so I'll give it a bit more of a crack than that... but seriously, we've been playing a lot of the Left 4 Dead demo, and are very much waiting in anticipation for 7:01pm Newcastle time for the activation of this breath of rotten-flesh air from the deities that are Valve. I've been posting a few rumours and cool stuff on the forums around L4D which I recommend you check out if you haven't already.
In other "what I've been doing" news, I decided to take advantage of Steam's latest sale and purchase 2007's Overlord for 75% off price of $9.99USD and so far I'm impressed. Desperately trying to break away from my FPS-exclusive gaming rationale this game is just what I was after! Sure it's got a couple of dings and dents in the body, but nothing's perfect. It's not difficult, but it takes the mind away from the FPS genre and provide some medium level entertainment, and while I wouldn't part with the RRP of $39.99USD on any regular day, for the $9.99USD sale price for 2 days only it's a bargain of epic proportions. So if you feel like blowing a little bit of cash and trying out an easy but fundamentally enjoyable RTS/RPG AND manage to get in before the sale ends in... about 6hrs - I recommend buying Overlord on Steam.
The signups are still ticking over quite nicely with the 250 attendee's mark drawing closer and closer almost daily! With every additional signup the constriction in Felix's (and to a lesser extent, my) chest lightens, allowing the rainbows and joy in to combat the dread and anxiety.
The next week+ is a big one for the admin team with lots of driving and planning and creation etc happening in preparation for the upcoming awesome, along with adminLAN taking place this weekend after a misfire a fortnight ago... and believe me it's going to take a focus of all our combined mental energies to stay out of the games until the hard yakka is done, which there is a lot to do. We're also expecting/hoping ticket sales open this week, however at this very moment that decision rests on someone elses shoulders, much to our displeasure. Keep an eye out for hidden Playathalon details from now till the LAN too.
